On March 13th, 2024, a team from the Beyond Support Foundation conducted a comprehensive needs assessment and impact evaluation at the Gospel Believers Children Center in Kitale, Kenya. Originally established in Nairobi and subsequently relocated to Kitale due to financial constraints, the center has been a beacon of hope for vulnerable children for over two decades. The visit aimed to identify ongoing challenges faced by the center and evaluate the impact of its interventions, particularly focusing on the successful transition of graduates into self-sufficient members of society.

The Gospel Believers Children Center has been providing sanctuary and support to vulnerable children for over 20 years. However, financial instability threatens its existence, primarily due to the passing of a major donor, resulting in significant funding shortages. Mr. Patrick, the godfather and caretaker, has been pivotal in ensuring the basic needs of the children, despite the challenges faced.

Sheeren Nasambu’s story is one of resilience, hope, and unwavering determination. Born into uncertain circumstances, she was brought to the Gospel Believers Children Center at just one year old, finding sanctuary and support amidst life’s challenges. Now, standing on the brink of adulthood as a Form 4 student, Sheeren’s aspirations soar beyond the confines of her past, fueled by a desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

Despite facing numerous hurdles along the way, including the scarcity of revision materials, Sheeren’s commitment to her education remains unshakable. The lack of essential resources, such as revision books, posed a significant obstacle to her academic journey. However, with the timely intervention of the Beyond Support Foundation (BSF), she received the much-needed set book that she previously lacked. This support not only alleviated her immediate concerns but also ignited a renewed sense of hope and determination within her.

Sheeren’s dream extends far beyond personal success; she aspires to become a teacher, a beacon of guidance and mentorship for other vulnerable children, empowering them to overcome adversity and reach for their dreams. Her desire to volunteer at the Beyond Support Foundation reflects her commitment to giving back to her community and uplifting those in need, embodying the spirit of resilience and compassion that defines her journey.

As Sheeren prepares to navigate the challenges of her final year in high school, she faces the daunting task of securing her future beyond the classroom walls. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunities provided by BSF but spoke earnestly about her desire for further support. “I appreciate everything Beyond Support Foundation has done for me today, especially for the basic necessities that will support my child, me and my mum. What I need most is assistance with the nursing school fees. If BSF could help me with that, it would be the key to unlocking my full potential. I believe that with the right support, I can achieve my dream of becoming a nurse and contribute even more to my community.”

She believes with BF’s continued support in mentorship and perhaps financial assistance for starting a small business, she can turn these dreams into reality.
